Default Small guilds and Possible Charter?

A Problem most guilds face nowadays is simply a matter of recruitment. In Guildwars there must be more then 3500 guilds. Im estimating that number simply from the Guild rankings. Ive seen alot of new people just come into the game and create guilds. Now in my experiance ive seen alot of 2-4 men guilds that are simply unable to grow and are not willing to go elsewhere leaving a very low member base to recruit off. Im not saying that people shouldnt be creating 2-4 men guilds but it really leeches off the member base. You may be thinking is this guy an idiot? We have so many inactive/small guilds, If even some of it were to be deleted the member base would expand by alot and the bigger more established guilds can grow and not have to worry. I know this may be an issue of age and such. Thus my next paragraph

Im not sure if any other game uses this simply because the only game ive played that has in game support for Guilds is Guildwars. My suggestion is a charter. What do I mean by that? The charter would have to be signed by 10 members. Only when that charter is full could a guild be created. This way the guilds will have a decent member base to start off of and grow and there wont be a cluster of 2-3 men guilds. 10 members is also enough to have a stable gvg team or for PVe as well.

This is not a flame or rant in anyway towards the small guilds but it is an issue guild leaders are facing nowadays.

If people join a small guild and stick with, that's because they WANT to be in that small guild. Maybe they are all friends, etc. Maybe they just want the status of being in a guild and having a cape, but don't care about big GVG and stuff like that.

That is what they want, and they should be allowed to play how they want. If they wanted to be in some massive guild, they would already look to join one. I think you are kidding yourself if you think these people are all willing to be in a big guild but just need to be pushed into that direction. They are doing what they want to do.

this is a good idea.

i think a requirement of 6 charter members must be met before starting a guild.

While I understand the reason you are suggesting this, I have to disagree with it.
I am in a small guild. i like being in a small guild that has some basic rules. Age limit is a big rule that I like, I don't have to deal with kids that were raised without any knowledge of respect or manners. I don't have to listen to someone dropping F-bombs everyother word on the vent channel (Not saying that it never happens, but it shouldn't sound like the newest rap album all the time). Most of all I know that in this small guild everyone is taken care of, if you need something all you have to do is ask and you will have it in short order or you will at least have help getting it. I love just being able to give stuff to someone that needs it and know that they will give me the things I need also. No hassle, no arguing over price, just good people taking care of each other.
I have been in a large guild and I hated it. I am not saying anything is wrong with a large guild, just that it is not for me. If someone wants to be the only person in a guild I say that is fine as long as they are playing the game the way they want to. There is no reason to force anyone to have a "charter" or any requirements that are not already in the game in order to have a guild.

If you are having troubles recruiting people into your guild you may want to rethink your recruiting methods. The worst way to recruit anyone is to stand in town spamming the same crap everyone else is spamming.
*insert guild here* is recruiting have hall, cape, upgrades, etc. etc. etc.
Nobody cares, everyone recruiting has all that same stuff. Try to make your postings have something extra like "will help you learn PvP" or anything that will actually draw interest.

Hasn't something like this been suggested before?

And just for the record: /notsigned - If people want to be in a small guild, forcing them to join a large guild isn't going to solve any problems, infact, it's just going to make them want to leave GW altogether. Small guilds exist because lots of people prefer close knit groups, 2 to 4 people at most. As I said before, if you take away the right to a community of their own, which has been present in GW since day 1, these people are just going to up and find another game.

EDIT: And, by 'these people,' I mean me and a whole lot of others, even if I'm in a 19 member guild...

One thing about Anet. In fact, about the whole world. If you're selling something, do everything you can to not limit your customers. If you limit them, like you're suggesting, then you lose customers, then money, and the whole reason Anet made GW is to make money, not to lose it.

... just because many people like small guilds made of close friends. There are already many people willing to join a guild if you're looking for them. They may not be the kind of players I'd like to have in my guild (many of them I mean, not all of course, aka: young players, immature, F-bombers as said Thargor, etc.), but for most of us (all the players who are not in a strong established guild that can afford to be hyper-selective) we gotta choose between number and quality. Making all the players who are not in a 10 men guild guildless won't change that.

What would happen anyway if you have 10 guys to sign the chart and make a guild and one of them leaves? The guild is automatically disbanded? That would be harsh. It's not disbanded? Then all you have to do to make a 1 man guild is to PM 9 friends who will temporary join your guild and leave right after it's created.

I manage a very large guild, but agree with the comments made here. We are very clear we are LARGE so ppl who want to be in a small guild are not misled. And there are many many who like the small guilds. We have a couple of GREAT allies who are small guilds.

Recruitng has gotten harder, true
Guild hopping has become epidemic (frustrating but true)
Forcing behaviour is not a solution

I'd quit if anything like this were ever implemented. The ability to have a small guild is the saving grace of the social aspect of this game.

sounds like the warcraft III clan option... you have to be with 10 to create a clan. If you want to make a small clan of even 15 people, how are you gonna get them online at the same time? remember, you don't have guild announcements yet, so you have to speak to everyone individually, then there's always one who's busy/forgotten it/whatever.

and small guilds rule

Seems harsh but it leads to a nice social guild

I agree with it in way but maybe less than what you posted anyway I think that 100 members is ridiculous it should only be 30.There is no way you can keep track of all 100 members and if I was in guild of that size I would leave.I can see that happening to those guilds as you don't know jack from joe.
